Excerpt from The Dramas of Victor Hugo, Vol. 22: The Burgraves Torquemada Lucretia Borgia Scene. - The ancient gallery of seigniorial portraits of the burg of Heppenhejf. This gallery is circular in form and spreads around the great tower; it communicates with the rest of the castle by means of four large doors which are situated at the four cardinal points. As the curtain rises, one notices that a portion of this gallery makes a turn and is lost behind the round wall of the tower. To the left, one of the four large communicating doors. To the right, a large and high door, communicating with the interior of the tower; it stands upon an elevation of three steps and has a small house-door beside it. In the background a semi-circular roman promenade with low pillars, curious capitals, over which is a second story (practicable), communicating with the gallery by means of a staircase of six steps.
