It is in deference to this wish that I have endeavoured to relate as clearly as possible, my war experiences. Any defects in the manner of relation I hope will be excused as they are due to my having received no great schooling as a child. It has been necessary for obvious reasons in some cases to designate those who figure in the story merely by an initial but the narrative itself is a true record of my own adventures during those arduous years.
