Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from David G. Farragut In preparing this biography of Admiral David Glasgow Farragut, I have been assisted in the most liberal and cheerful spirit by Captain Loyall Farragut, the son of the admiral, and author of "The Life and Letters of Admiral D. G. Farragut." It is with hearty thanks that I acknowledge my indebtedness to him and his work. I am also under great obligations to Mr. Charles W. Stewart, Superintendent of the Library and Naval War Records, Navy Department, Washington. Through his courtesy, I have had the use of hundreds of documents, gathered from Union and Confederate sources, which have not yet been published, but are to appear in the "Official Records of the Union and Confederate Navies." From these documents I was able to gather much valuable fresh material. And it may not be out of place to add here that by consulting other original sources of information I have been able to correct a few errors that appear in other works relating to the admiral, and to throw new light on events with which he was connected. The story of the war with the West India pirates, for instance, was written after a careful search of the Naval Affairs volumes of the American State Papers.
