Excerpt from Special Forms of Service: Sanctioned for Use in the Diocese or Worcester The following Services, mainly borrowed from other Dioceses, fall into two classes; I-IX. being for use by the Bishop or under his mandate, those which follow by the parochial Clergy. They are hereby sanctioned for use in churches in this Diocese. The Bishop desires to call the attention of the Clergy to the fact that Services other than those of the Prayer Book, even though they are made up of portions of Holy Scripture and the Book of Common Prayer, require to be approved by the Ordinary, both as to "the Form of Service and the mode in which it is used" (Act of Uniformity Amendment, 4). Any special Services, there fore, not included in this book (such as Guild Services, Services of Preparation for Holy Communion) require to be sanctioned by the Ordinary for each church in which it is desired to use them. The difference should generally be marked between such supplemental Services and the Common Prayers or Offices of the Church, by saying the former elsewhere than in the Chancel and without a surplice. They must not be allowed in any way to supplant or obscure the daily Morning and Evening Prayer and the Service of Holy Communion, as appointed in the Prayer Book. Nor are any special Lessons or Psalms ever to be substituted for those appointed in the Prayer Book for Sundays and Holy Days.
