Excerpt from Getting Along Without the Devil: A Preamble, to His Resolutions When a mere boy I read in God´s word, "If ye had the faith of the mustard seed you could move mountains." I pondered this over in my mind until recently. Again that the growth of His kingdom was likened unto a mustard seed. I pondered this. And I found this, "The word I shall speak it is truth." Then, like Nicodemus, I said, "How can these things be?" Discerned by the Spirit. God created the mustard seed to be very much like His own unchanging nature, just what our natures should be. The mustard seed, when thoroughly tested year after year, will be found to retain its own individuality, and not mix with other plant growth, and bring forth substance unlike its own. God´s word that became flesh is the good seed, likened unto the mustard seed, by Himself; the seed that was promised to Abraham, and is meat for the souls of earnest ones to fatten upon, that won´t mix with the tares of the field, "The children of the devil." The mustard seed may be crowded out of the garden, but it won´t mix with other plants, just to have a place there, just to be seen of men. The Word of God may be choked out for lack of soil or because of stones, (unbelief), Matt. 13:25, but where the Word is understood and done, then it will never fail to bring forth substance of the thing hoped for, and, is that, that will convince the gainsayers, mountains.
