Excerpt from Dangerous Donations and Degrading Doles: Or a Vast Scheme for Capturing and Controlling the Colleges and Universities of the Country The articles which compose this pamphlet were prepared for publication in the Atlanta Journal, and the first two were printed in its columns. The editor of the Journal withheld the last two from publication out of a consideration of courtesy to the meeting of the "Conference for Education in the South" in the City of Atlanta, explaining to the writer that he agreed with the position of the writer on the general subject and would print the two papers after the "Conference" adjourned. As is evident on the face of the articles they are entirely courteous, and it does not appear that the "Conference" should be exempted from courteous criticism because of the place at which it happens to meet this year, especially when it is remembered that the articles were prepared before the writer of them knew where or when its session would be held, and that he had no part in inviting the body to meet in Atlanta. "The Conference" bears but a secondary and tributary relation to the "General Board of Education," and the emphasis of these papers does not fall on it.
