Excerpt from Civic Bibliography for Greater New York The accompanying Bibliography has been prepared for the use of students and investigators of social conditions past and present in Greater New York City. The aim has been to provide a practical handbook for workers in such form as to give them access to all important material in print in their several lines of work or investigation. Variation in form of records of the different libraries consulted made absolute uniformity of entries impossible, but the importance of uniformity has been constantly in mind and has been secured as far as possible. The name of at least one library where a given work may be found is mentioned. The work in question may be in others, but has been credited to the library first examined. Acknowledgment must be made to those who did the actual work of preparing the Bibliography. The original work was done by Messrs. Howard B. Woolston, Ph.D., and Roger Howson, a graduate of the N. Y. School of Philanthropy. Their work was subsequently added to and completed by Miss Catharine S. Tracey, Librarian of the Reform Club Library of Columbia University. All the proof has been read and corrected and the index prepared by Mr. C. Alexander Nelson, formerly Assistant Librarian of Columbia University.
