Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Bookselling, the System Adopted in Germany for the Prevention of Underselling and for Promoting the Sale of Books: A Paper Read Before a Meeting in London of the Associated Booksellers of Great Britain and Ireland, April, 1895 When I put together the remarks contained in this paper, I had no idea of publishing them, and they were couched in language as colloquial as could be. I am, however, fulfilling a wish of the Associated Booksellers of Great Britain and Ireland by preserving my very imperfect outline of the history and organization of the Börsenverein der Deuischen Buck handler and by giving permission for the reprinting of this paper. It stands just as it was read, and my readers will, I hope, overlook its familiar and colloquial diction. I will add one remark which I was forced to make in my reply to the observations offered by different members of the Association, viz.: that I had no idea of making propaganda with this paper, but that I wished simply to explain a method which was working in a helpful and salutary way elsewhere and to inquire whether something of the same sort could not be done here. An English organization would have to be started on different lines - even if they were not so admirable as those on which the "Börsenverein" works.
