Brown, May 18, 1871, the undersigned were appointed a committee to express to you their sincere thanks and high appreciation of your excellent and impressive funeral sermon, preached yesterday, and to solicit, if agreeable to you, a copy for publication. Gentlemen: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note, requesting, for publication, a copy of the discourse delivered at the funeral of Mrs. Eliza W. Brown. I feel that the discourse is a very meagre sketch of one so refined by nature, so cultivated by mental and moral discipline, so devoted as a Christian, and so useful and heroic as a missionary. Still if, in your opinion, its publication will be gratifying to the bereaved friends, it is at your service.
