Excerpt from Secretary´s First Report: Harvard University Class of 1898 I herewith respectfully submit the first report of the Class, and trust that it will meet with your approval. My one regret is that I have been unable to give all the time and personal supervision to its preparation that I desired to give, but this unfortunately, and in all probability, is a predicament in which a great many of the Secretaries of future Classes will find themselves. To compile a Class report nowadays, especially the first report, is a task which involves a tremendous amount of detailed work, and the time necessary for such work is a limited quantity so far as concerns a man in active business. I found it necessary to secure outside co-operation, and I was exceedingly fortunate in thus securing the services of an undergraduate who has shown a deep personal interest, and a conscientious spirit in his work. To this man, to a great number of the Class, to the Officials in the College Office and University Library, to the Team Captains and Club Secretaries, and to all others who have shown a happy spirit in answering my appeals for necessary information, I desire to extend my personal and hearty thanks. In conclusion, I must urge the members of the Class to meet the appeals of their Secretary with more promptness, and with a little deeper feeling of interest than they have in the past. An incomplete report is not only worthless as a report, but it is also a foolish and extravagant expenditure of the Class funds; and yet it has to be published.
