B. Slaughter had in contemplation the writing of a book on Nebraska. He requested me, as I was one of the first pioneers, to furnish him material touching the early settlement of the Territory. The request was complied with, and a limited amount furnished. He afterward said: "You have not furnished me the tithe of what I expected; I shall expect a great deal more from you." Soon after this remark he was called to his heavenly home. Later, one of the leading members of the Nebraska Conference said to me: "You owe it to the Church and posterity to leave in permanent form your early experiences and observations in Nebraska." A leading pastor in a sister denomination of the State suggested the same thing, and similar suggestions have been made by others.
