Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Recollections of a Ministry of Forty Years At the request of some of the members of the Boston Association of Ministers I have agreed to prepare a paper upon "Recollections of a Ministry of Forty Years," from Dec. 11, 1854, to Dec. 11, 1894. I have been asked to give a resume of my ministry, and to speak of the men whom I have met, and of the churches and their work when I began my work, and of the hopes of to-day, when everything seems so vastly different from what it did in 1854. The subject is a large one and it would hardly be possible to condense forty years into forty minutes; and whatever may be said on the subjects suggested must of necessity be fragmentary, conversational, and perhaps somewhat too personal. But, as your moderator and others have ordered me to speak, like a good soldier I have only to obey. My appearance before you this afternoon reminds me very vividly of a meeting of the Boston Association of Ministers that was held on June 12, Monday, 1854, over forty years ago, at the house of the late Rev. Dr. George E.Ellis, in Charlestown, Mass., when a very young man, twenty-three years old, appeared before the Association according to the. custom of those days, that he might receive his license to preach. The subject that was presented by the candidate for that afternoon was "The Death of Christ, and its Effect upon the World."
