Excerpt from Fasti Ecclesiæ Hibernicæ, Vol. 5: Illustrations, Corrections, and Additions, to Which Are Added General Indexes to the Whole Work As I shall not live to publish another edition of these Fasti, and probably no other person will do it during the next fifty years; I think it advisable, while some portion of eye-eight is still mercifully spared to me, to do all which- lies in my power to render the work somewhat less imperfect than it is at the present time. I have, therefore, put together all the notes which I have collected since the publication of the several volumes, comprising - 1. Additional Preferments. 2. Corrections of errors, either observed by myself or pointed out by various friends. 3. Additional information concerning persons named in the book, or concerning their literary labours. I. On the first of these heads I fear that the new matter will not be found so copious, nor perhaps so correct, as that which was given in the former volumes. For I have not been able to undertake a second tour through all the Diocesan Registries of Ireland, for the purpose of verifying my statements by personal inspection of the records. And although in some cases that duty has been kindly done for me by friends, yet in others I have been obliged to depend upon secondary evidence: and it is likely that many of the more recent preferments have escaped my notice altogether.
