Her writings abound with thoughts and feelings which so strikingly illustrate, not only her daily life, but the motive which prompted the scrupulous fulfilment of duty, that it has been a task of no small difficulty to decide what to omit in her husband´s carefully compiled volume; yet it was believed that her example, exhibiting so strongly the union of self-denial and submission to the divine will with the culture of the affections and the intellect and the rich enjoyment of the beautiful in nature, might be profitably placed within the reach of all.
