Excerpt from Secretary´s Second Report: Harvard University Class of 1898 To the Members of the Class of Ninety-Eight: - I desire to express a deep sense of gratitude to those members of the Class who have shown a keen interest in this Second Report, and who have had enough sense of duty and loyalty to answer all the questions which I sent out very nearly a year and a half ago. To these men I also present my humble apologies for the delay which has occurred, and also for the incomplete record which the Report contains. The number of "lost men" and those "not heard from" is absolutely absurd, and the late date at which this appears is due to their negligence and failure to reply to my repeated communications. Please look over the list, and if any of them happen to be particular friends of yours, stir them up! Make them realize that at least a little sense of duty and loyalty to the Class is a good thing; that courtesy alone demands that some attention should be paid to communications sent out by the Class Committee or Secretary! The material in this Report is arranged to conform as nearly as possible to plans recommended by the Association of Class Secretaries. You will undoubtedly find mistakes in its composition. Please call them to my attention and you will be doing me a great favor. Just one word more. Next June we celebrate our Decennial. If each one of you will make a special effort to be present we shall have a wonderful reunion. At present our old "Class Spirit" is dormant. Stir it up! Each man strive to do his own little part, and future celebrations and Class Reports will take care of themselves.
