Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from The Doctrine of Justification: And the Harmony of the Apostles Paul and James Considered, in Particular Reference to the Treatise of Bishop O´brien Sir, The doctrine of justification is one to which, though already the theme of so much wearisome, angry, and often verbal controversy, we may be excused for reverting again and again, if it is with any hope of correcting error, or reconciling differences. I venture, accordingly, at a season of the year when perhaps the demands on your valuable space are least oppressive, to ask a share of it, for the proofs, or what appear to me to be the proofs, of the three following propositions. 1. That justification is from first to last, by faith, and by faith only. 2. That there is nothing in this doctrine militating with the principle, as asserted by St. James, that "a man is justified by works, and not by faith only," according to the plainest and most obvious sense of those expressions.
