Excerpt from The Evidential Value of the Holy Eucharist; Being the Boyle Lectures for 1879, 1880: Delivered in the Chapel Royal, Whitehall Various circumstances incident to a change of work have conspired to delay the publication of these Lectures, which ought to have appeared some time ago. I have taken the opportunity, which the interval has afforded, to expand some portions of the argument, and to add the necessary notes. Since the delivery of the first portion of these Lectures my attention has been called to a remarkable sermon by the Rev. Dr Salmon, Regius Professor of Divinity in the University of Dublin, in which, without my knowing it, he has traversed a portion of the same ground. I have not scrupled, therefore, in bringing out these Lectures, to refer to that Sermon, and to make more than one quotation from it.
