Excerpt from Memorial Volume by the Essex Street Church and Society, Boston, to Commemorate the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of the Installation of Their Pastor, Nehemiah Adams, D.D Several members of the Union (Essex Street) Church and Society were informally invited, December, 1858, by one of their number, to meet at the house of Deacon Charles Scudder, to confer with regard to a celebration of the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of the Pastor´s Settlement. At this meeting, various Committees were appointed to make suitable arrangements for a celebration. On the fifteenth of February, a printed notice was sent to all the present and past members of the Church and Society, so far as they could be ascertained, by the Committee on Invitations, informing them of the proposed services, and inviting those at a distance to accept the hospitalities of our families, if they should attend.
