Excerpt from The Quadrennial Book and the Christian Annual: For the Year of Our Lord, 1907 I Wish to acknowledge my gratitude to all who have so willingly assisted in making this volume as valuable and nearly correct as it is. There are some mistakes, no doubt; but I have been able to put in only that information which was furnished me. I have depended this time wholly upon the conference clerks for the names and post-office addresses of the ministers: having found, in other years, that the ministers did not readily respond to the request to send their name and address to me. The book is sent out with the heartfelt hope and prayer that it will be kindly received by all our churches, and that all who read it may find something that will make them better, cause them to love the Christian church more and, above all else, love Him supremely, "who gave himself a random for all." Things may not always go just as we think they should, and sometimes the future, as well as the present, may look a little dark; but let us thank God for what he has done, and trust him for the future, showing to the world, as much as possible, the spirit of this verse: "Thank God for the man who is cheerful. In spite of life´s troubles, I say; Who sings of a brighter to-morrow. Because of the clouds of to-day. His life is a beautiful sermon, And this is the lesson to me, - Meet trials with smiles, and they vanish; Face cares with a song, and they flee."
