This village is situated in the province of Normandy, on the banks of the Orne, which here flows through some of the most beautiful scenery to be met with in the whole country. In fact, the place has not inappropriately been called "The Garden of France." It takes its name from a large, stately old mansion, whose turrets could be seen appearing above the trees which surrounded it, and which stood on an eminence some half a mile distant.
