And when, amidst all this darkness and ignorance, a few illiterate men, void of all human improvements, came to strike out a glorious light that clears human understanding, and brings us in view of an infinite mind, and of an after-life and immortality; to what, I say, can one ascribe their having been able to impart this great knowledge to mankind, but to those informations they must have received from heaven? It is true, the first Publishers of the Gospel were of the Jewish nation, and may therefore, perhaps, be understood to have derived their knowledge of those articles from human instruction.
