Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Bulletin of Information Series, 1914: One Hundred Topics in Iowa History In May, 1904, The State Historical Society of Iowa published, as Bulletin of Information No. 2, a list of twenty-five topics in Iowa history under the title of An Iowa Program for Study Clubs. The thought of preparing such a program was first suggested by Miss Alice Tyler, who was then Secretary of the Iowa Library Commission. Three years later (1907) an enlarged and revised edition of the Iowa Program was brought out in response to a growing interest in the study of Iowa history. This new edition, which was issued as Bulletin of Information No. 6, contained a list of thirty-two topics. Since the original publication of the Iowa Program there has not only developed a much greater interest in Iowa history, but the scientific literature in this field of study has more than trebled. Accordingly, the Iowa Program has grown into a more pretentious list of topics and references and is now published under the new title of One Hundred Topics in Iowa History. In compiling this list Dr. Clark has included topics upon which there is available literature of a satisfactory character. While there has been no attempt to cover the whole field of Iowa history, a study of the subjects here presented will give the reader a general knowledge of the more important facts and phases of our commonwealth history. Moreover, in selecting references the aim of the compiler has been to give citations which are available and accessible to the average reader and not in any sense to present an exhaustive bibliography of sources.
