To do honor to the name, and to perpetuate the benediction of a noble life, this memoir is prepared. The influence of such a life, like the fragrance of the alabaster box Mary broke on the person of the Saviour, cannot die; and like the aroma of the crushed flower, is magnified by the event which hastened it to its immortal destiny. It is fitting that this record should be made, not only that tender and holy feelings may find an appropriate response, but that this name may be permanently inwoven with that history which God made through him and that those who now are, and shall come after, may share the good inspiration it furnishes. Dr. Tressler was born in the village of Loysville, Pa., February 15, 1839. and died in Carthage, Ills., on Friday morning, February 20, 1880, in the 42d year of his age.
