To some it may not he all they desired, and to others more than they expected. The price of the hook is a trifle more than I designed, hut it seemed impossible to crowd so much matter into less space, and the superior portraits that have been inserted have added largely to the cost of the work. Both author and publisher have endeavored to make the book as perfect as possible, and the former confidently hopes that the work will he kindly received as hereby presented to the conference. My thanks are due not only to the printer and lithographer for their carefulness in the preparation of the hook, hut also to all the dear brethren of the conference who have, in any manner, contributed to its pages, and cheered the author by their good wishes and encouragement.
