Excerpt from Delays Dangerous: No to-Morrow for the Repeal of the Test and Corporation Acts; The Safety of the Church and the Welfare of the State Do Immediately Require the Removal of These Disqualifying Laws In the Gentleman´s magazine of December last, I could not but observe the two remarkable letters there inserted, about the repeal of the test and corporation acts: the one is call´d, a letter from a dissenter in the country, to his friend in London; containing reasons against the dissenters applying for the repeal. The other, is an abstract of old common sense of Dec. 23d. which contains arguments for the repeal. The reflections I have made on the subject are as follow. Common sense has wisely observed, "that reason and religion demand to have the conscience free, and both direct us to resent every tax ´tis encumber´d with, as the most grievous of all impositions."
