Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from The Early History of the Church of the United Brethren (Unitas Fratrum) Commonly Called Moravians: In North America, A. D. 1734-1748 For a number of years the MS. compiled by the Rev. Levin Theodore Reichel, and containing the Early History of the Church of the United Brethren (Unitas Fratrum), commonly called Moravians, in North America, A.D. 1734-1748," which is herewith produced in print for the Moravian Historical Society, was thought to be absolutely lost. Fortunately, however, it was discovered in the Summer of 1887, and immediate steps were taken to prepare it for publication. Owing in great measure to the difficulty of handling the Germanisms to which the author so genially alludes in his Preface, the work of editing progressed slowly. In no case, however, has the Publication Committee taken upon itself to change any of the Rev. Mr. Reichel´s statements or sentiments except linguistically, and a recognizable flavor may still be perceived. The proof-sheets, in their several stages, as well as the original Ms. have been deposited in the Archives of the Moravian Historical Society, where comparisons may be made. On account of its importance this little work will form Volume III of the Transactions of the Moravian Historical Society, comprising its publications for the years 1887, 1888 and 1889.
