The translation of "The Achilles´ Shield," by a great statesman, breathes the very spirit of Homer, and shews that that distinguished man might have been one of England´s best poets. The Bishop of Lincoln´s letter is a specimen of Christian feeling and of classical Latin. Some of the epigrams are touching. The letter of a Master of Arts to the compiler, in which he threatens him with castigation, and lets him off so easily, is evidently the production of a good scholar and a gentleman; the compiler would have thanked him had he been able to discover his name.
