It is not designed, however, in any way to forestall a large work which is promised in German. As several years may elapse before that work can appear, it is hoped meanwhile that this little volume may be welcomed by those who knew and loved Professor Delitzsch. It lays no claim to completeness, although it is based on an intimate acquaintance with him which began in 1873; on a careful examination of original documents, not previously brought to light; and on personal interviews with those who were acquainted with Professor Delitzsch and his mother for years, one of whom was an old schoolmate at the Nicolai Gymnasium.
