You´ve spoken truly, ´Tis the Hermit´s, sad and lone. And I slightly shudder, as he, At this instant with a smile, Hastes to greet me, - but recover, Seeing naught portending guile. Clothed in garments, ragged, thread-bare, Dingy; else but patches naught; Face as bearded as a lion´s, Yet with no such fierceness fraught. Such was his appearance. Giving Me a seat, he then withdrew To the corner where the flickering Flames their radience o´er him threw. Then with loquacious glibness, Showed he those alloquial powers Which have entertained so many, Many anxious minds for hours. But his words were all unheeded, Little interest they bore, For the study of his features Interested me far more. How advertently I pondered On that visage.
