Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from The Early Years of John Calvin: A Fragment, 1509-1536 John Calvin was born at Noyon, a city of Picardy in France, on the 10th of July 1509, and was baptized in the Church of St. Godaberte in the course of that month. He was the second son of Gerard Chauvin or Cauvin and of Joanna Franc. His father was a native of Pont l´Eveque, a village situated within a quarter of a league of Noyon, to which place he removed at an early period of his life. At that period there was no middle class in France; all who could not trace their descent from: an ancient family, or who had not been ennobled in consequence of some rare feat in arms, were classed promiscuously among the people. If we may believe the enemies of the Reformer, he sought afterwards to conceal the meanness of his birth by changing his paternal name.
