Excerpt from The Spiritual Illumination of the Gentiles, Coeval With the Conversion of the Jews: A Sermon, the Substance of Which Was Delivered, on September 13th 1814 "Moreover, the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the Lord bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound." An exceeding great and precious promise of God to the children of men, and a description of the time when he will accomplish it to them, are contained in this text. The promise is recorded in the beginning of the verse. "The light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days." These words may be considered either as a promise or a prediction. As a divine promise, they exhibit to us an unspeakable blessing, which the Lord has graciously engaged to bestow on the nations, at the appointed season. As a divine prediction, they foretell a glorious change, which the Lord shall produce among men, at the latter day. These expressions are metaphorical.
