No one has seen or heard any of the matter herein contained, except three poems which have been published, or circulated privately, so I must take full responsibility. I am conscious of many defects in the work. If what has been written brings as much pleasure to those who read it, as it has brought to me in the preparation of it, I shall have my reward. Part of the work was done amid the pines at, and near. Flagstaff, and the remainder in southern Arizona, whence the title. I am indebted to Mrs. Ella H.
