It is hoped, that the task of collecting these pieces of diplomacy, and forming them into one body, will not be regarded as useless: they certainly are not destitute of interest, but entitled to attention, in more than one point of view. They comprehend a space of nearly eight years, during a remarkable period of our times. To the historian of these times they will offer details with which it may be advantageous for him to be acquainted, in delineating the events, which he has chosen for his pen.
