Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Catalogue of the Library of J. Montgomery Sears: Including the Poetical Library of Ferdinand Freiligrath The author of "One Summer" has, in a later book, given a sketch of a day spent at Cannstadt among Freiligrath´s books. The poet was no longer living, but his library remained as he had left it; and the writer expresses the desire that so interesting a collection of books should remain as a memorial of its founder, and not, as then seemed probable, pass into the hands of the auctioneer. It is a matter for congratulation that an American, living for a time in Germany, and sharing the enthusiasm of the nation for Freiligrath, should have been led, through an acquaintance with his family, to purchase the library and transfer it to this country, where the interest in German literature has, within a few years, received such a decided impulse, and where it can be of service to the student. The interest of the collection is due largely to the fact that, as in the case of the library of George Ticknor, it represents the accumulation of a lifetime in the poet´s own chosen field of study, and may be regarded, to a certain extent, as the source of his inspiration.
