Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from Considerations on Eucharistic Worship: Or, True and False Doctrine of the Eucharistic Sacrifice The writer desires to commend these considerations on Eucharistic worship, and the criticism of Roman doctrine contained in them, to the attention more especially of those Anglican High Churchmen of the modern so-called Catholic school, who, because they feel keenly the deficiencies, spiritual and liturgical, of ordinary Anglican worship, are too apt to accept, without sufficient examination, the Roman theory and practice of the Mass as a standard of Catholic orthodoxy and an ideal form of true Christian worship. It is assumed by many members of this school that it is only the Church of England that has "suffered grievously from degenerate and heretical tendencies within her borders," which have silenced "the voice of Catholic orthodoxy" and suppressed "the witness of Catholic ritual." But the endeavour is here made to shew that the voice of Catholic orthodoxy, even on the question of the Eucharist, is not to be heard in the Church of Rome, and that Roman practice and ritual has suppressed the witness which the Canon of the Mass itself bears to the truer, more original form and practice of Eucharistic worship. Whatever degenerate and heretical tendencies there may be in Anglicanism and Protestantism are referable to, and are the direct results of similar tendencies in Romanism.
