From whence such a circumstance should arise, it is impossible to conjecture, because, though he has undoubtedly many difficult and obscure passages, there are still certain determined beauties, which must always have recommended him to the notice of the learned. The largest English collection, I meet with, is in the translation of an old romance, written by Mons, de la Chapelle, and entitled, Amours de catulle; some of the principal Carmina of Catullus, with a few other poems from different writers, are so put together, as to form, in the author´s own words, "a "train of Historical conjectures."
