We need not wonder that the publisher of a provincial publication such as the present requires to be protected by subscription, when we consider that a taste for poetry is not the most prevailing of the day. The greater part of this little collection has appeared in the ´Arbroath Guide,´ ´Scotsman,´ ´Tait´s Magazine, the ´Glasgow Citizen,´ and some have been copied by the London press: - this is a sort of guarantee that they are readable at least, and some excuse for republishing them in a collected form.
