Excerpt from Nomination Hearing for Marsha P. Martin: Hearing Before the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Unites States Senate One Hundred Third Congress Second Session on the Nomination Hearing for Marsha P. Martin to Be a Member of the Farm Credit Administration Board, September 29, 1994 The committee met, pursuant to notice, at 9:30 a.m., in room Sr-332, Russell Senate Office Building, Hon. Kent Conrad, presiding. Present or submitting a statement: Senators Conrad, Cochran, Grassley, and Hutchison. Statement Of Hon. Kent Conrad, A U. S. Senator From North Dakota Senator Conrad. This hearing before the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry will come to order. Good morning, and welcome to this hearing on the nomination of Marsha Martin to be chairman of the board of the Farm Credit Administration. The Farm Credit System is very important to the agricultural economy of this country and to the Members of this committee. The regulatory actions of Fca are the key to ensuring the safety and soundness of the Farm Credit System as well as its compliance with its statutory mission, to provide affordable credit to a broad range of farmers, ranchers, rural home owners, and cooperatives. I want to welcome Ms. Martin. You are obviously very knowledgeable about Fcs and will be able to guide the Farm Credit Administration in its important tasks. I just want to note that, in addition to your impressive career with the System, you were also instrumental in establishing the Texas Agricultural Loan Mediation Program and currently serve on its advisory board. This is one of the outstanding programs in the country, which receive funding under the State certified mediation program. I want to publicly commend you for your efforts with that program. Ms. Martin. Thank you. Senator Conrad. I have also been impressed by the success of these mediation programs around the country, so impressed that I have authored legislation to expand and to provide mediation on other agricultural issues. My Colleague, Congressman Pomeroy, authored similar legislation in the House. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
