Glotfelty, clerk, Subcommittee on Foreign Aid Expenditures; and Laura Olson, special consultant on population problems. Senator Gruening. The meeting will please come to order. The Senate Government Operations Subcommittee on Foreign Aid Expenditures continues hearings on S. 1676 today and welcomes the distinguished witnesses who have come to testify and the men and women in the audience who are here to learn how the population problem can be solved. There is a growing interest in this problem, as the members of the press will tell you and as you have heard, seen, and read. PRESIDENT JOHNSON SPEAKS AT UNITED NATIONS Last Friday, President. Johnson spoke of the problem for a second time this year when he addressed the United Nations on the occasion of its 20th anniversary in San Francisco, Calif. He used this forum- this world forum-to say: Let us in all our lands - including this land - face forthrightly the multiplying problems of our multiplying populations and seek the answers to this most profound challenge to the future of the world.
