Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the City Charter of Newburyport, Mass The closing words of Mayor Brown´s inaugural address, in January, 1901, were in recommendation of a suitable observance of the fiftieth anniversary of the birth of the city of Newburyport, - June 24, 1901.On the same evening that the advice was given the city council by the mayor, an order was adopted by that body providing for a special committee, to act with citizens, in taking the first steps of preparation. On that committee were: Mayor Brown; President Withington, of the board of aldermen; President Dodge, of the common council; Aldermen Sargent and Pearson; Councilmen Sullivan, Herlihy, Rantoul, Lunt, Frost, and Chase. A meeting of this committee was held in January, and a call issued to all organizations, secular and religious, to elect representatives to act on a general committee. It was also voted to call a mass meeting of citizens to choose men for the general committee. At a meeting of the general committee it was voted that the mayor should appoint sub-committees, and that an executive committee should have general control of the celebration.
