My object has been to give some of those details of travel, impressions, and experiences, which will probably fall to the lot of the emigrant, but which do not come within the ken of the ordinary traveller. In the matter of even successful prairie farming "things are not what they seem," notwithstanding the extravagant puff of the newspaper article, or the book that is intended to advertize the new country, at the same time rousing hopes of a "Promised Land" in the breast of the European farmer, who is struggling for existence.
