It was proper, therefore, that extended notices should be taken of him by the Association on their anniversary, which his eloquence has so signally illustrated. Would that the tribute were worthier! The resolutions in memory of the late President of the United States and in honor of the present distinguished incumbent were cordially adopted, as expressing not only the united voice of the Association, but of the nation also, in this portentous period of its history.
