The daughter was selected as the proper one to portray the father´s character, and hand it down to future generations. It is to be deeply lamented that this fondly cherished work, which she was so competent to execute, was frustrated by an early death, and before a single line had been written. At the earnest solicitation of the son, the late Silas N. Kendrick, whose memory is fitly embalmed in the following pages, the writer assumed the task of authorship, the fruits of which are now submitted to the Christian public. The original plan of a separate memoir of the father has been so far modified as to allow the record of the life of the son and of the father in one volume. As a slight extenuation of the faults of the work, it is due to say, that it has been executed amid the pressure of pastoral and pulpit labors.
