Produktbeschreibung
Excerpt from Centennial of Methodism in North-Carolina: Containing the History and Addresses Delivered at the First Centennial Mass-Meeting Celebration, Held by Order of the North Carolina Annual Conference, at Metropolitan Hall, in the City of Raleigh, N. C., March 21st to 26th, 1876 In 1874, Rev. H. T. Hudson published an article in the Raleigh Christian Advocate calling attention to the fact that "the first circuit organized in North Carolina was in the year 1776, a year immortalized by the memorable Declaration of American Independence." Early in the year 1875, Rev. R. S. Webb published a communication in the same paper proposing to celebrate in some suitable manner the centennial of North Carolina Methodism. Some time in September, 1875, Rev. H. T. Hudson called special attention to this subject, and urged it with much force on the ministers and members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in the bounds of the North Carolina Conference. In this article a proposition was made to raise money for the benefit of the three colleges of the Conference; and also to build a Metropolitan Methodist Church in the city of Raleigh, North Carolina. The "key-note" was struck, and from this time until the annual conference, the subject was agitated by the editors and correspondents of the Raleigh Christian Advocate and spoken of favorably by the secular press of the State.
