Excerpt from Memorials of the Honorable Joshua Salmon: Of Boonton, New Jersey On Tuesday morning, the sixth day of May, in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and two, there suddenly passed away in the sacred quietude of his beloved home on Division Street, at Boonton, New Jersey, the Honorable Joshua S. Salmon. Important legal business requiring his personal attention at the bar of the Morris County Courts had called him for a few days from his post of duty at the National Capital, he being at the time of his decease the esteemed Representative in the National Legislature from the then Fourth Congressional District of the State of New Jersey. In the legal profession, and in the fields of local and State and national affairs, which for many years he had occupied, he had attained to no ordinary height of eminence. Such, indeed, was his prominence in his chosen profession, and in the various spheres of public activity to which he had been officially appointed, or to which he had been elected by the suffrages of his fellow-citizens; and such is the excellency of the record made and bequeathed to his survivors by him in connection with the various spheres in which he so ably served, that it has seemed highly fitting, both as a sincere tribute of regard to the deceased, and as a means also of perpetuating his memory, to put the story of his career in suitable form for preservation for the benefit of future generations.
