Dec. If impartiality, however, is, as I have no reason to doubt, one of the characteristics of your paper, of which I have been a reader for very many years, always with interest, and for the most part, though with some exceptions, with acquiescence in sentiment, you will, by the insertion of the following, admit the claim of audi alteram partem. It is the fashion of the clay, and may flatter popular feeling, to decry the West Indians - they are the butt of whoever wishes to exercise his spleen. That interest is indeed, independent of the imminent peril in which its existence stands, peculiarly depressed.
