I remember those ague fits with a great deal of pleasure and gratitude.´ Marryat´s story is in best of company when it is named together with Vinget ans apres. There are some who do not find that joy in reading Dumas which is so heartily, and sometimes so noisily, avowed by his professed, not to say professional, admirers. But they are a minority among the lovers of tales of adventure. It becomes them to reflect that they are probably wrong, and ought to be proportionately modest. They must in any case remember that the true lovers of Dumas can praise nothing more highly than by linking it in their esteem with something of his.
