Excerpt from Brief Description of the Chamberlain Collection of Autographs: Now Deposited in the Public Library Some time must pass before the completion of an adequate description and analysis of the Chamberlain Collection of Autographs. Meanwhile it is desirable that somewhat be known of its size and scope, particularly for the information of libraries and students at a distance. A portion, however, is already exposed to public view in a series of framed documents and tablets. Placed as these tablets are, in a position to attract the notice of younger students of American history, they are now rendered most intelligible and useful by historical prefaces which introduce their titles throughout the following pages. In a few months it is proposed to print in separate form the full text of the four great documents, mentioned more fully beyond, and with them to reprint the prefaces to them, as well as the descriptions of the tablets. The account which here follows of the general collection coincides in part with an article written a few years ago for the Boston Sunday Herald, by the Rev.
