Excerpt from Papers of the Manchester Literary Club, Vol. 4: With the Proceedings of the Society for the Session 1877-8 This Volume, like its predecessors, has been edited by the President. The Writers of Papers are, however, alone responsible for the facts and opinions in their respective communications. The Illustrations are, for the most part, facsimile reproductions by the typographic process of drawings by members of the Club. For those illustrating the Paper on Canon Parkinson the Club is indebted to Mr. John Evans, at whose expense they have been produced. They are facsimiles, drawn by Mr. Ellas Bancroft, of three of the engravings in the Old Church Clocks and are reproduced by permission of the Rev. Canons family. The two drawings of Clayton Old Hall, as it was about 1820, and is now, are excellent examples of the perfection to which facsimile work, by means of lithography, has been brought. The cost of these has been partly borne by Mr. Edward Williams, the author of the paper which they illustrate. For the index the members are again indebted to the "painful" industry of their Honorary Secretary, Mr. W. E. A. Axon.
