Excerpt from United States Educational, Scientific and Cultural Motion Pictures and Filmstrips, Suitable and Available for Use Abroad: Report of the Panel on Educational Films Sub-Committee on Catalogue United States National Commission for Unesco, July 1952 My dear Dr. Dale: It is my privilege as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Catalogue again to report to you, Chairman of the Panel on Educational Films of the United States National Commission for Unesco. This third report takes the form of the Second Edition of the catalogue, United States Educational. Scientific and Cultural Motion Pictures and Filmstrips Suitable and Available for Use Abroad. In this second edition arelisted all of the films and filmstrips comprised in the First Edition and in the Supplement to the catalogue, which are presently available to foreign distribution. Other similar materials have been added and you will note in the Second Edition a large selection of films and strips produced by business organizations. In the selection of these subjects your Chairman made good use of the film digests and appraisal reports issued from the State College of Washington, where thousands of productions were reviewed and evaluated under the film project of the Economic Cooperation Administration. It has always seemed to me to be a great credit to American industry that here in the United States it has created and maintains available for educational and informational use a very large reservoir of films and filmstrips in such fields as public health, agriculture, mining, forestry, livestock raising and milk processing, intended to increase productivity and augment national well being. Of course all of these were made for public relations purposes. In the best of them the advertising content is low and the educational content high. My only regret is that this material is not generally available abroad, free of charge. It is usually available at cost.
